2013 Boca’s Ballroom Battle over the Top
The Sixth Annual Boca’s Ballroom Battle benefitting George Snow Scholarship Fund Raises over $230,000.00
On August 16, 2013 at 6pm over 750 showed up at the Boca Raton Resort and Club to cheer on their favorite community dancer. Each Community dancer had their own contingency of supporters with their own individual support strategies. The theme of the evening was Boca’s Ballroom Battle Tribute to Broadway and co-chairs Beth and Brad Osborne and Carmel Pasquale and Peter Baronoff along with the entire 2013 Community and Professional dancers started out the night with a performance of “On Broadway” The crowd went wild when Emcee Paige Kornblue and Dick Pollockintroduced Dancing with the Stars professional dancer, Tony Dovolani as Honorary Judge of the event.
The 2013 Community dancers were:
Mark Brockelman-SVP-Chief Financial & Administrative Officer of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium. Mark performed to “Walk like a Man” from Jersey Boys
Gary Collins-General Manager, Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club, A Toll Brothers Community, Gary performed to “Hey, big Spender” From “Sweet Charity”
Dr. Anthony N. Dardano-Plastic Surgeon, Anthony N. Dardano, D.O., F.A.C.S., Tony performed to “Summertime” from “Porgy & Bess”.
Dorothy MacDiarmid-Partner, Cloud 9 Consulting, Branding & Consulting, Dorothy performed to “Money, Money, Money” from “Mama Mia”.
Marie Occhigrossi-Attorney with Weitz & Luxenberg, Marie performed to “Maria” from “West Side Story”.
S. ChrisPalermo-Founder and CEO, Global Communication Networks, Inc., Chris performed to “Phantom of the Opera” from “Phantom of the Opera”.
Robyn Nassetta – Vice President, Nassetta Marketing, Robyn performed to “Ease on down the Road” form “The Wiz”.
Marie Speed-Editor, Boca Magazine, Marie performed to “All that Jazz” from “Chicago”.
This year’s judges included Laura Martin, a four time undefeated United States Ten Dance Champion, Armando Martin, North American Latin and Standard Champion and Dan Guin, Executive Director of Boca Ballet along with Dancing with Stars, Tony Dovolani. Each dancer was judged on technical merit, artistic expression and overall performance. The Women’s Champion was Robyn Nassetta, Vice President, Nassetta Marketingand the Men’s Champion was Gary Collins, General Manager, Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club, A Toll Brothers Communityboth receiving the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.
Each community dancer committed to raising money by securing pledges on their behalf. The eight dancers combined secured $230,000 in pledges. And for a fourth year we recognize the Fundraising Champion from the Women’s and Men’s Division.Marie Occhigrossi-Attorney with Weitz & Luxenberg, who raised more than anyone in the history of the event and S. Fred Astaire Dance Studios Boca Raton was once again the official dance studio partner donating 15 private lessons for each competitor as well as five group lessons. Professional dancers performing with community dancers were James Brann, Pam Casanave, Eric Dehant, AJ Molter, Ivan Rivera, Mariya-Khristina Shurupova and Sayra Vazquez.
