On September 27, 2013, 74 golfers and volunteers rose with the morning sun and headed to the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club’s Jack Nicklaus designed golf course for a round of 18 holes. Despite the 7:00a.m. registration time, any frowns quickly turned upside down as players were greeted with a smile, a lavish breakfast and a gift bag of quality Nike golf products. But none of this came as a surprise, for this was no average golf tournament — this was the 25th Annual Golf Classic benefitting The George Snow Scholarship Fund, and here replicating the amenities of a PGA event comes standard.
“We are blessed to have an extraordinary team of volunteers and sponsors who participate in this and all of our events,” said Tim Snow, President of the George Snow Scholarship Fund. “Our patrons receive a level of service that is world class. Our attention to detail and our volunteers’ can-do attitude sets us apart from most other events of this kind.”
Presented for the fourth year by The Steve Bagdan Charitable Foundation, joined by Seminole Region Charity Golf Tournament Committee and Mercedes Benz of Delray, the tournament benefited the George Snow Scholarship Fund, a local public charity that provides scholarships and support services to the best, brightest and most deserving students in our area.
All teams participating were invited to the Thursday night VIP Pin and Tee Placement Party to design their own hole. During this event, captains of each team, who participated at the Corporate Level and above, had the opportunity to set the pin and tee placement on their sponsored hole for the tournament the following day, which made for a very interesting day of golf. (How about that hole placement on hole #17?!)
The morning began with players hitting a few balls at the driving range and then an 8:30a.m. shotgun opened the course to well-prepared golfers. After the tournament, golfers were treated to a relaxing and delicious Champion’s Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Seminole Region Charity Golf Tournament Committee, in the club’s Palm Room.
The event channeled the Oscars, presenting gifts of crystal barware and awards for everything from the “Longest Drive” to the “Closest to the Pin”. Also presented, were the first place in Champions and Founders Divisions as well as the Classic Leadership Award presented to David Hofer. The first place teams in the divisions were Boca Raton Mausoleum in the Champions Division and Steve Bagdan Charitable Foundation in the Founders Division who found themselves the proud recipients of the Golf Classic trophy into which their names will be engraved. In the end, the tournament netted more than $27,000, all of which will help the Fund’s scholarships and programs during the upcoming year.
