Selection Process

Candidates for Snow Scholarships apply for financial awards by completing an extensive application and review process. The George Snow Scholarship Fund advertises the availability of awards through a variety of media and promotes each scholarship with high school scholarship coordinators and guidance counselors.

Applications

The online application becomes available on our website on November 1st  each year. The deadline for completion is February 1st of the following year.  Once completed, the applications are processed and delivered to the Scholarship Selection Committee.

The George Snow Scholarship Fund has an outstanding group of community volunteers who sit on the Selection Committee to review all applications. The Scholarship Selection Committee is comprised of professionals; including educators, businessmen and women, and individuals who are considered experts in certain areas. Most committee members have served many years and have a great deal of experience in our process. All share a passion for helping others.

Each selection committee member is assigned a certain amount of applications which are reviewed and ranked in the appropriate areas. The rankings are then submitted to our office, where they are entered into a program that compiles all the rankings and allows us to ensure that every applicant is being equally assessed. Based on the rank from that scoring, the candidate is either declined or invited to interview.

Interviews

Students who are selected to interview are contacted via email to schedule an interview meeting. For the interview, the selection committee is divided into teams of four. Each team interviews all the candidates assigned to their team and grades each individual candidate according to the results of their interview.

Financial Need Analysis

During this process, a separate team gathers necessary information such as high school transcripts, student aid reports, and family tax returns that are used to substantiate information provided on the candidates application. From here a Financial Need Analysis is performed.

Once all information is obtained, we then take our selection committee grades and merge them with the established financial need to assign scholarships that are based on need and who best meets the established criteria.

High School Presentation Schedule

Each year, a representative from The George Snow Scholarship Fund visits eligible high schools to give informative presentations on the scholarships that are available. At the presentations, students are advised on how to best complete the application and questions relating to the application process are answered.

The presentations for 2019-2020 will be scheduled  in the beginning of the school year and we will update this list as we receive presentation dates from high schools.

If your high school does not have a date listed, please check back as this will be updated regularly.
